The hidden camera was found on Sunday, July 28 at a Scarsdale residence on Bradford Road, according to an announcement by Mayor Justin Arest, Police Chief Andrew Matturro, and Acting Village Manager Alexandra Marshall on Monday, July 29.
After the device was found, police were notified and began investigating the discovery with other agencies, officials said, adding that no one was harmed and that there was no indication of a burglary at the home.
Authorities did not find any other cameras while searching the surrounding area.
According to Scarsdale Police, the department has stepped up patrols in the area where the camera was found. Authorities also gave residents tips for preventing burglaries:
- Keep all exterior doors locked using deadbolt locks, including garage doors and interior access doors;
- Lock your car's doors and remove keys from inside;
- Secure garage door openers in a locked glovebox;
- Use an alarm system;
- Use motion-sensing exterior lighting;
- Don't leave house keys under door mats or in "hiding places" outside your home;
- Install a video surveillance system.
